he EducationNext Podcast’s special edition, featuring 88 thought leaders welcomes Bozhidar Hinkov founder of Arrchitects.com from Sofia, Bulgaria.

As a dedicated homeschooler and worldschooler to his three daughters, Bozhidar shares his unique perspective on education and parenting.

He credits his wife, Daniela, for supporting the idea that children should have the freedom to carve their own paths in learning and life.

Together, they prioritize providing their children with the security and independence to thrive in their individual journeys.

Bozhidar emphasizes the importance of following one’s instincts and separating parental expectations from children’s unique identities.

"We need to stop seeing kids as extensions of our own childhood or carriers of our baggage.

They have their own unique journeys," he says. He encourages parents to expose their children to diverse experiences and connections, arguing that traditional schools, with their outdated methods, often turn parents into mere transporters.

"Let’s not forget how bored we were in schools," he remarks.

Bozhidar speaks highly of Lara Olbeter, a mentor to his daughter Maria. Under Lara’s guidance, Maria has participated in filmmaking sessions supported by the MaNaBu movement.

The Filmmaking Project (FMP), which Maria has been part of, is supported by MaNaBu Movement —a collaborative initiative to support young people and their dreams.

Guided by the mentorship of film director Lara Olbeter in Bansko, the FMP empowers teenagers with filming, editing, and production skills.

Bansko’s vibrant worldschooling communities make it possible for young people and parents to collaborate and create such opportunities.

As part of EducationNext’s tradition, Bozhidar answered these key questions:

1. Who are the key people influencing their life?

Bozhidar credits his father, an artist, and various tutors throughout his life as significant influences. He mentions an 80-year-old professor who taught him invaluable lessons, underscoring the importance of mentors within the same profession.

Bozhidar’s approach to learning—seeking out experts and maintaining close professional connections—is a philosophy he actively passes on to his children.

2. What are their primary sources to keep themselves up to date on their interests?

Bozhidar believes in experiential learning through networking and location-based exploration. He seeks out individuals related to his fields of interest, relying on meaningful interactions rather than solely on formal education or the internet.

3. What are their biggest failures/mistakes and accomplishments?

Bozhidar views failures as opportunities for growth.

"When you lose things, it helps you choose and pick the best parts for yourself," he shares.

Accepting and learning from failure, he says, leads to self-improvement and a deeper understanding of oneself.

4. What are their character traits according to their fellows, friends, or family?

Bozhidar is widely admired for his ability to understand others deeply and empathize with their perspectives. This trait has made him an effective parent and mentor, as well as a thoughtful leader in his community.

5. What are the three things they would have helped him?

Reflecting on his life, Bozhidar mentions three things that have shaped him:

  1. The ability to think critically.
  2. Being a marathon runner, which instilled discipline and resilience.
  3. Observing the hills, symbolizing his appreciation for nature and life’s broader perspectives.

Bozhidar Hinkov’s story is an inspiring testament to the possibilities of alternative education and parenting.

Through worldschooling, he has created a nurturing environment where his daughters can grow, explore, and thrive in their unique journeys.

His philosophy and practices offer valuable lessons for parents and educators alike, emphasizing connection, curiosity, and the courage to embrace change.
