ducation Next Lara Olbeter, a film director and passionate teacher, as she shares her one-year experience of the filmmaking project in collaboration with the MaNaBu Movement.
She reflects on how the young learners were so passionate about learning, sharing her unforgettable experiences from the year-long project, stories, and how she would like to extend the program.
Lara: A Visionary Film Director Empowering Young Minds in Bansko
Lara, a passionate film director, is making waves by sparking young minds through an innovative filmmaking program hosted in the picturesque town of Bansko.
This program not only imparts technical skills but also provides young individuals with the invaluable experience of being part of real-world film projects.
Here's a glimpse into Lara's vision and the journey she's embarking on, one film at a time.
The Visionary and Her Mission
Lara's mission is rooted in the belief that education should be accessible to all. As a director with extensive industry experience, she's keen to share her insights with the next generation.
"The industry's exclusivity shouldn't dull young people's potential in filmmaking," says Lara. Her out-of-the-box thinking has led her to redefine traditional education in the cinematic arts.
This program is not just about providing a foundation in filmmaking; it's about fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence in young storytellers.
"Young people can be involved in the sets, in the editing part, and the post-production market. They are involved in the technical steps. This will help them understand the actual filmmaking world," Lara explains.
A Year of Impact and Growth
The filmmaking project started in 2024 as a collaborative effort by the MaNaBu Movement to empower young people in Bansko with IT skills and opportunities to find work globally.
The mission is to empower teenagers with filming, editing, and production skills, including MNBM Certifications, by providing them with opportunities to find work assignments and work globally.
Reflecting on the past year, Lara highlights the passion and enthusiasm of the young learners.
She shares the story of Maria, one of the learners who joined the actual film set and managed to learn skills and be part of the crew like an adult.
Lara recalls meeting the learners in Bansko and being impressed by their proactivity in handling the camera, caring for costumes, and managing the set. She notes a clear difference between these young learners and the university students she has taught.
The young learners were also involved in editing, and Lara expresses her desire for them to continue working on their dreams and making the best films in the future.
Cherished Moments and Future Plans
One of Lara's most cherished moments from the project is seeing the learners take charge and responsibility. She mentions her plans to help the learners progress to the next stage from where they are now.
Lara has great plans for them and aims to empower more learners who do not have the facilities. She believes that more young people should be empowered and is committed to teaching and supporting them.
It aims to bring hope and new possibilities to the youth.
