hravya Shah's journey is a testament to the power of passion, curiosity, and relentless building.
A young entrepreneur from Malad, Mumbai, Dhravya’s path to success is both unconventional and inspiring.
Here’s how he transformed from a gamer to a prolific product builder, now making waves in San Francisco.
The Early Days: From Games to Programming
During the COVID-19 pandemic, like many teenagers, Dhravya spent his days playing Minecraft and PUBG on his iPad.
But halfway through the lockdown, he realized the need to channel his time into something meaningful.
In August 2022, armed with a laptop and fueled by curiosity, he discovered a Python course and completed it in just one day. That was the turning point.
His first project? A calculator app built for his mom, which sparked his love for programming.
He began documenting his journey by writing blogs, sharing his progress, and diving deeper into the world of coding.
The Shift to Building Projects
While Dhravya initially aspired to get into IIT, scoring 69% in his 12th-grade exams shifted his focus. He began creating projects instead, developing skills far beyond what traditional coaching classes offered.
Among his early creations were a Twitter bot and a Discord bot. His Discord bot gained traction, and he even collaborated with someone in the U.S. to host it on a server.
This led to the birth of Epic Host, a company that provided hosting services for bots.
Dhravya became addicted to seeing people use his products, which bolstered his confidence. He built tools like:
- Shutter.io: An automation platform.
- Tweet.Beauty: A Twitter bot that allowed users to generate visually appealing screenshots of tweets.
- Dump.Place: An app for organizing saved content.
When Elon Musk liked a tweet showcasing his bot, it catapulted his visibility, garnering millions of views. Dhravya uploaded his bots on Product Hunt, where he received widespread recognition and even attracted potential buyers.
He sold Epic Host for $8,000, marking his first significant financial success.
From Mumbai to San Francisco
Dhravya’s entrepreneurial spirit drove him to San Francisco, the epicenter for builders.
According to him, "If you are a product builder, you need to be in San Francisco." He is now networking, building new ventures, and soaking in the ecosystem of innovation.
The Builder’s Philosophy
Dhravya firmly believes that success lies in continuous building, even if the projects aren’t perfect. In 2023 alone, he built 73 projects, showcasing his relentless drive. Some of his standout creations include:
- Siri GPT: A voice assistant combining Siri’s capabilities with GPT models.
- Super Memory: A tool born out of personal necessity to organize and store all saved files and photos in one place.
Advice to Aspiring Builders
Dhravya offers these pearls of wisdom for those looking to emulate his path:
