icrosoft unveiled a significant evolution of its AI assistant, Copilot, aiming to transform it from a general AI companion into a highly personalized tool tailored to individual users.
Mustafa Suleyman, Executive Vice President and CEO of Microsoft AI, emphasized this shift in a statement, highlighting the company’s vision to create a unique Copilot for every user based on their specific needs, values, and expectations.
Suleyman explained that, with user permission, Copilot will now retain information from conversations, learning personal details such as preferences, daily routines, and life events—like the name of a user’s pet or workplace challenges.
This memory feature is designed to enable Copilot to provide contextually relevant support, appearing at the right time in a way that aligns with each user’s life.
He described this as a “richer, more dynamic, supportive, and emergent” experience, marking a new era in human-technology interaction.
The updated Copilot will retain its core functionalities, such as an engaging personality and robust search capabilities, while introducing advanced features.
These include Deep Research for in-depth analysis, Shopping assistance for finding deals, and Actions to handle tasks like booking tickets or arranging transportation.
A new Windows app will enhance integration with users’ computers, and Copilot Vision on Mobile will allow the AI to interpret real-time visual input, such as analyzing surroundings through a phone camera.
Suleyman stressed that personalization is central to this update, with Copilot remembering not just what users say but who they are, helping them stay organized, think clearly, and learn intuitively.
The AI aims to adapt to various needs, from providing quick answers to facilitating long discussions or offering a space to unwind. Microsoft is also exploring customizable appearances for Copilot, allowing users to shape its look to reflect their personality or interests.
Despite these advancements, Microsoft underscored its commitment to user control, ensuring individuals remain in charge of what Copilot learns and how it operates.
Suleyman noted that the company will continue refining Copilot based on user feedback, with the goal of delivering a truly personalized AI companion for everyone. The rollout of these features began on April 4, 2025, with further enhancements expected in the coming weeks.
This announcement aligns with Microsoft’s broader strategy to integrate AI deeply into daily life, building on its 50-year legacy of innovation as celebrated on the same day.
