icrosoft marked its 50th anniversary with a celebration that wasn’t just a look back—it was a bold leap forward.

In a keynote address, CEO Satya Nadella announced a transformative wave of updates to Microsoft Copilot and its AI ecosystem, signaling a new era where intelligence is not just a tool but a collaborator.

With a packed audience and the world watching, Nadella shared how Microsoft is empowering everyone—from developers to everyday people—to achieve more, reinforcing the company’s mission that has evolved over five decades.

Intelligence as a Partner: AI Agents Take Center Stage

Nadella kicked off with a striking observation: “Intelligence has been commoditized.” What once required years of expertise is now accessible to all, thanks to autonomous AI agents.

These “peer programmers,” as he called them, can collaborate with us, anticipate our needs, and spark creativity. Starting today, this capability—dubbed "agent mode"—is rolling out to all Visual Studio Code users.

“This is not just a cool party trick,” Nadella emphasized. “It’s transformational. It’s empowering. It’s unleashing human ambition, and it’s happening now.”

The announcements didn’t stop there. Microsoft is bringing full Model Context Protocol (MCP) support to agent mode and launching a Code Review Agent to automatically detect and fix bugs. Nadella also highlighted Foundry, a platform he likened to “an agent factory—a production line for intelligence.”

Tens of thousands of organizations are already using Foundry to build custom agents, and a new framework for multi-agent systems was unveiled to push the boundaries even further.

To ensure these systems are trustworthy, Microsoft is rolling out tools for evaluation, fine-tuning, observability, and feedback, including a red teaming agent and code vulnerability measures.

Copilot: From Developers to Everyone

Reflecting on Microsoft’s journey, Nadella noted, “What started as a developer tools company 50 years ago is now a platform company where everyone can be a developer.”

This ethos drives Copilot, which is expanding beyond coding to every facet of life.

During the keynote, he showcased real-world examples built with GitHub Spark: an allowance tracker, an animated world from a six-year-old’s imagination, an ingredient safety checker, and a time-tracking app counting down to Build 2025.

“We’re putting the power in people’s hands,” Nadella said, “so they can build software that moves their communities, their countries forward.”

Copilot’s evolution was a centerpiece of the event. Nadella announced a suite of new features, some available now and others coming soon:

  • Available Now:
Copilot Pages: A collaborative space for real-time AI-assisted work.
  • Coming Soon:
Deep Research: AI-driven insights combining web data and personal context.Copilot Shopping: Personalized, efficient online shopping.Copilot Search: Smarter, context-aware search.Copilot Podcasts: Effortless audio content creation.Copilot Actions: Task automation at your fingertips.Copilot Memory: An AI that remembers and connects your experiences.Copilot on Windows: Seamless integration into the Windows ecosystem.

A Legacy of Empowerment

Nadella closed with a nod to Microsoft’s roots and its future. “I’ve always thought of Microsoft as a platform and partner-first company,” he said.

“This has only been possible because of our customers, our partners, our developers, and our 1.6 million employees—past and present.” From a company founded in 1975 to a global platform in 2025, Microsoft’s mission remains unchanged but expanded: to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.

As the 50th anniversary celebration wrapped up, one thing was clear: Microsoft isn’t just commemorating its past—it’s redefining the future. With Copilot and AI agents leading the charge, the tools to dream, create, and innovate are now in everyone’s hands. And as Nadella hinted, “There’s much, much more to come.”
